As we enter the holiday season, police departments across the nation are warning residents to be vigilant. Burglaries are known to increase at this time of year, as thieves try to gain access to your stockpile of holiday presents.
Don't think it can't happen to you. From flat-screen TVs to toys, there's virtually no item that's safe from burglars who are desperate for cash. And if you're home during the invasion, a simple theft can turn into a very dangerous situation.
If your home doesn't already have an alarm system, now is the perfect time to speak to your local Security Doctors Authorized Dealer. He will discuss your options and provide a solution that ensures your home, family and belongings are safe throughout the holidays and beyond.
In the meantime, there are a few additional steps you can take to deter burglars who may already have their eyes on your property:
1.Keep your home well lit. Even if you don't put up holiday lights, consider keeping your front and back lights on, so burglars would have a difficult time staying hidden.
2. Make sure your Security Doctors yard sign is visible. If you already have an alarm system, make sure your yard sign is placed in front of your home, and place your alarm stickers in windows or doors at each side of your home.
3. Lock doors and windows. Don't make it any easier for burglars to gain access to your holiday gifts! Keep all windows and doors locked – and don't forget to check the basement windows – one of the most common points of entry for bad guys.
4. Going away? Use light timers. A simple timer costs only a few bucks and plugs into any electrical socket. Plug your lamps into it, so that your lights will turn on and off while you're away, giving the appearance that someone is home.
5. Report suspicious activity. If you see something, say something. If everyone in the neighborhood remains vigilant, burglars won't stand a chance. Don't be afraid to call the police if you see suspicious activity around your home or your neighbors'.
